Oslo’s rather hairy Golden Celeste have released a new video for the track ‘Is This What You Could Not Do?’ in advance of their debut album ‘The Glow’. A warm, shimmering track, it makes me think of the Magic Numbers and some tracks off of a 60’s soft pop Nuggets compilation I bought a few years ago. There’s definitely a bit of Byrds in there as well. These are good things. There is a breezy bliss to be found here. The band list My Bloody Valentine and Radiohead as influences but this gorgeous release lacks the venom of those bands, unless they’re keeping their powder dry for the debut.
The video features footage of the band playing in a tiny room and recording made around their native Norway. This writer does will not be stooping to the use of cliched Norwegian imagery. Check out the drummers moustache though. An absolute belter of an effort.
‘The Glow’ is released on September 11th via Riot Factory
