Girlpool make late bid for inclusion on ‘Juno’ soundtrack, unveil single & UK tour.

Following on from the recent release of their debut album, Philadelphia indie duo Girlpool have revealed details of a headlining UK tour. Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad (quality names) will play a string of UK dates before setting off on a jog around Europe.

But that’s not all. Oh no. The band have also unveiled a new video for album track ‘Magnifying Glass’. At 40 seconds, it probably doesn’t last as long as Matt Bellamy can hold a high C. Everything is packed into the small package, a tune you’ll end up humming unexpectedly, a scattergun lyric about love and friendship and sweet vocals. ‘Magnifying Glass’ could sneak unnoticed on to a Magnetic Fields album. Combined with a lo-fi but vibrant video, it’s like putting a whole bag of fizzy cola bottles in your mouth at once. Which could be horrible or glorious, depending on your tolerance for twee indie. Bugger it. Belle and Sebastian have gone disco so someone has to do this.

The album, ‘Before The World Was Big’, is out now on Wichita (who I was all about in 2005).
