Car Seat Headrest is Will Toledo, a frighteningly prolific US cult indie secret. But secret no more, as he has signed to Matador Records, home of Interpol, Queens of the Stone Age and my current faves Algiers amongst others. ‘Something Soon’ is Toledo’s first ever official video and comes ahead of his debut album ‘proper’. This is not his first rodeo though, as Toledo has already released 11 albums via Bandcamp. Pesky kids and their damn internet etc.
The video sees Toledo and bandmates dick around in a cabin with lightbulbs acting out ‘skewed domestic situations’. The track itself is suitably dark, full of angsty imagery leading to a cathartic chorus. There is something of the bedroom indie star about Toledo that reminds me of River Cuomo and it’ll be interesting to see how his geeky charisma plays out over a full length album. This track is a promising sampler.
The debut album ‘Teens of Style’ is out October 30 on Matador Records.
