Errolyn Wallen wrote Peace on Earth, the most haunting Christmas Carol that I have ever heard. When I first heard it played in St Johns Music Hall, in Cambridge, I thought the musicians had mucked up the timing of the instruments. It sounded discordant and fragmented, and spooky.
But then I realised, with time, this was how it was supposed to sound, and then fell in love with the piece. She dedicated the piece to the Windrush generation.
