The Darkness, Wembley, 2023

The Darkness ended their co-headlining tour with The Black Stone Cherry in Wembley, amidst bursts of flames and fireworks.

Following the opening number ‘Growing on Me’, lead singer Justin Hawkins reminisced about the band’s debut album, ‘Permission to Land’, which was released in 2003 and spurned their hit single ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’. Given the song’s popularity, it would come as no surprise that the band are still performing it 20 years later, with Hawkins asking everyone to turn their phones off and enjoy the moment.

For the finale of their tour, they pulled out all the stops and reinforced their reputation for putting on impressive and somewhat ferocious live performances. With a flamboyant lead singer who bounces around the stage and hits notes some can only dream of, teamed with an effortlessly cool bass, strong guitar riffs, and crashing cymbals, its easy to understand why The Darkness are as popular as ever.
