ROMEO & JULIET WITH THE PBT ORCHESTRA!

Romeo and Juliet
Romeo & Juliet

Pittsburgh, PA, USA-

The Pittsburgh Ballet Theater performed William Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet with The PBT Orchestra for an excited audience who was in love with the performance. Romeo & Juliet is considered one of the greatest love tragedies ever written, but it is a beautiful and romantic ballet that brings words to life through dance.  This interpretation was brilliant.

Romeo & Juliet is a tragedy love story. It is a wonderful and sad story of two-family houses who are at odds but a man and a woman from each house fall in love, then ends in a terrible turn of events. This story has been told in a lot of ways onscreen and on stage but to see a ballet performance of Romeo & Juliet present in an elegant way is a masterpiece of a performance. The Pittsburgh Ballet performs at Benedum Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Benedum Center is a beautiful theater with a rich history that includes lovely, elegant chandeliers which are cleaned each year and people come from all over to see the cleaning of them and enjoy the ballet season.

This is Pittsburgh Ballet’s Emarald Season, and this is a beautiful way to celebrate with performances that are elegant and unique.  Turning a classic tragedy into a wonderful story into a ballet is genius. This is a story presented in an elegant performance and is a lovely showing of words coming to life through ballet.  It is a story of love, family and how a tragedy can be emotional for all involved. It is about new beginnings and new endings. The costumes are beautifully made, and the performance is gorgeously choreographed.

The performance of Romeo & Juliet is in three acts and a twenty-minute intermission.  The PBT Orchestra accompanies this ballet with a brilliant music score. Act One is how it begins with the tragically fated meeting of Romeo and Juliet, this includes the balcony scene that resonates with all in attendance.

Act Two continues to wow the audience with the Friar entering this story to bless the union between Romeo & Juliet and their love seems like a fairy-tale. The second Act ends in the tragic loss of life with the quarrel of Mercutio and Benvolio. The stage is simple in setting with easy transformations. This is fantastic choreography, and this keeps the intrigue throughout the performance.

Act Three is the ending to what should have been a beautiful love story but is a tragedy. Juliet has a plan to be reunited with Romeo, but the plan doesn’t get to fruition. There is Juliet ready to fake her death, unbeknownst to Romeo who believes she is actually dead. Romeo makes the decision that he can’t live without her, before Juliet comes back from a deep sleep, Romeo takes his own life, in return to the living Juliet awakes to finding Romeo is really dead. This is when Juliet takes her life to spend eternity with her love, Romeo. This heartbreaking performance of Romeo and Juliet is an impressive expression of ballet perfection.

Many travelers across the world comes to observe the Pittsburgh Ballet season performances. The artistic director, Adam W. Mckinney and the executive director, Nicholas Dragga have a beautiful season of ballet for 2024-2025.  In the Spring the Spring Mix is always a lovely way to enjoy ballet and the end of the season is spectacular with The Wizard of Oz, which is perfect to end their Emarald Season.
