‘Dancing While Falling’, new album by Quantic, is for fans of lounge and disco.
Its a bouquet of soul, jazz and funk, sprinkled with gospel, in a disco wrapping.
Strings wash over some of the tracks, reminding me of the beautiful La Ritournelle by Sebastien Tellier.
Quantic is English, an Englishman in New York. He laid down the instrumentals for the album in his NY studio, during lockdown. Later on he got a few heads to add lyrics and vocals.
The best of the bunch is Unconditional sung by Rationale, a true earworm. It gets into the Vanguard Online singles chart for 2023, at number 4.
The other tune of note is In The Ride sung by Connie Constance, accompanied by what sounds like several teenagers, repeating a set of mantras, principles for living. Its trancelike, not quite MSTRKRFT but moving in that direction.
