The thing is, post General Election 2024 quite a few people were taken aback at the number of independents who either managed to dislodge a Labour MP, or came very fucking close. Hmm. The Daily Telegraph correspondents, in line with Nigel Farage, put the spotlight on this new phenomenon and called it dangerous, dangerous to democracy. Nigel Farage made some comment about British values or something. About sectarianism versus integration. He said it showed people weren’t integrated. But clearly this new crop of British DIYers are showing:
- The kind of political entrepreneurialism that Margaret Thatcher would have been proud of.
- The kind of ‘pull yourself up by the bootstraps and get on your fucking bicycle and go and get yourself a fucking job’ that Norman Tebbit and his dad would be proud of.
These politicians have not sat in bed, having a crying wank, phoning up Talk Radio or tweeting about how none of the parties represent my views.
Instead they’ve gotten up and made their view stand out – and shown leadership and represented their own view by integrating themselves into the democratic political protest. As someone who loves democracy (cough cough, bullshit) Nigel Farage surely would respect that!?
The ones that won – they get to represent for the next four years – and they’re going to get paid for it – that’s how integrated they are. They’re not going to be watching Nigel Farage talking about political revolt for the next four years – revolt now there’s a not very integrated word – doesn’t sound like Nigel is very integrated does it?
It just so happens then that Nigel Farage’s party got as many MPs as there are new independent ones.
They did it with very little resource. Farage and his party have received big money donations. For the number of seats Farage has gained, his campaign has been incredibly cost-ineffective compared to the independents.
