Pittsburgh, PA, USA- On a chilly November night, a large audience converged to STAGE AE in Pittsburgh, PA, USA to see AVATAR! AVATAR is a metal band from Sweden, and they brought their “In the Airwaves USA ’25 Tour” to Pittsburgh, PA. The audience upon entering the venue were all age ranges and there were diehard fans dressed and there were new fans all coming together for the love of music. On this November night, everyone is in for a terrific show with all the metal they can handle and more entertainment from an incredible band who has released ten albums since 2001.
The audience is ready for the first of two opening acts. The two acts accompanying Avatar are SpiritWorld and Alien Weaponry. SpiritWorld takes to the stage, and they are all decked out in floral applique suits, that is a reflection where the band is from the town of Las Vegas, Nevada. Upon seeing them walk on stage one would not immediately think of heavy metal, then the music begins and it is all metal. The suits are wonderful, and the music is loud and boisterous. The crowd responded greatly to this four-piece band from Las Vegas, NV. There were crowd-surfing, circle pit, and head-banging throughout their set. This may be the most stylish band to take the stage at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, PA. There appearance in the suits with applique flowers included black shirts, bolo ties, and black sunglasses (Wondering if Maynard James Keenan knows of this band???). The guitarist played a patent leather guitar which was beautiful. SpiritWorld is a great live band with energy and good musicians. Everyone enjoyed the show.
The second band to open for Avatar is Alien Weaponry. This is the most interesting and unique entrance I have seen from a band in quite a long time. Alien Weaponry is a trio from New Zealand whose sound creates the story of the Maori people. This tribal music is energetic and loud with the message to let the Maori community tell the world of their story. The Maori people are a community in the remote region of the South Pacific. The band formed by two brothers and a bassist is an inspiration to others who want to play music. The drums are pounding, the bass is electrifying, and the guitar is inspiring. This is a strong and good band. The impressive sound they produce with just the three of them is loud and heart-pounding. Each member is charismatic and has good energy on the stage. Alien Weaponry is a powerful tribal metal experience.
It’s time for band the audience is here for – Avatar! A dark ominous entrance on movable platforms is how the band enters the stage. A lantern is held to light the way. It is almost like watching a boat entering a foggy harbor. Avatar is a heavy metal band from Sweden who always goes over the top for a theatrical fabulous time for the audience. This is no different. The exuberance of this band is undeniable. This explosive band began in 2001 and has 10 albums with the 10th their newest “Don’t Go In The Forest” which was released in October 2025. The band begins with the song “Captain Goat “as the opening song. The lights come on, and it is all a fantastic dream of a show. The audience is ready with a roar from the crowd from beginning to end. Avatar is a band that becomes charismatic characters on stage, and they have perfected their presence on the stage. The presence of the vocalist, Johannes Eckerstrom, is reminiscent of a young Rob Halford of Judas Priest, that is the only way to describe. The fog is highlighted by strobe lights and the other lighting in colors white, blue, red, green, yellow and pink only enhances the band’s theatrical performance. The audience is impressed with this performance with cheers of approval. The movable platforms and the springs for the mic stands make for an easy transition for the band to head bang in unison. This energetic and charismatic performance does not disappoint. The piano comes and there is a special jacket, the piano jacket, that is worn when playing. The audience interaction from the band is beautiful. The performance is perfect and beautiful.
