
Pittsburgh, PA, USA- The Pittsburgh Ballet Theater performed The Wizard of OZ with The PBT Orchestra as audience who was in awe of the performance. The choreography, the stage setting, the visuals, and costumes were perfect. This interpretation was brilliant.
The Wizard of Oz is beloved by so many. It is a wonderful exciting story of being human and finding strength from within. This story has been told in a lot of ways onscreen and on stage but to see a ballet performance of The Wizard of Oz with an Orchestra accompaniment is an incredible experience. This is the climax for The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Emarald season and it is an elegant and genius way to end with this masterpiece of a performance. The Pittsburgh Ballet performs at Benedum Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Benedum Center is a beautiful theater with a rich history that includes lovely, elegant chandeliers which are cleaned each year and people come from all over to see the cleaning of them and enjoy the ballet season.
This is Pittsburgh Ballet’s Emarald Season, and this is a beautiful way to celebrate with performances that are elegant and unique. Turning a classic story into a beautiful ballet is brilliant. The visuals used during the performances enhances and carries the story throughout the ballet. The costumes are beautifully made, and the performance is gorgeously choreographed. The lighting is a highlight of the show, and the stage setting makes one feel they are in Kansas and in Oz. This combined with the talented dancers brings this story to life.
The performance of The Wizard of Oz is in two acts and an intermission. The PBT Orchestra accompanies this ballet with a brilliant musical score. Act One is has a tornado swirling through and takes Dorothy and Toto off to their adventure. Dorothy lands in munchkin land as the munchkins are celebrating the end of the witch. Dorothy wants to go back to Kansas and to do so she must follow the yellow brick road to get to the Wizard. Continuing the story as the characters follow the yellow brick road as the two encounter the Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow. This is a very family friendly ballet, and it is also an elegant adventure.
Act Two continues to wow the audience with the visuals and the incredible stage sets. This is where the entrance of the Wizard appears to offer help to Dorothy and her friends. This is when the showdown between the wicked witch and Dorothy take place , and this is also the entrance of the dreaded flying monkeys. The dance of all who are involved climax to an amazing finish to a beautiful an elegant story told through dance. This is fantastic choreography, and this keeps the excitement throughout the performance.
Many travelers across the world come to observe the Pittsburgh Ballet season performances. The artistic director, Adam W. Mckinney and the executive director, Nicholas Dragga have a beautiful season of ballet for 2024-2025.
