
Pittsburgh, PA, USA- The Pittsburgh Ballet Theater performed their Spring Mix 5 for 55 at the August Wilsom African American Cultural Center. An excited audience was treated to an exhilarating performance of 5 very different ballets excerpts. This is to showcase all styles and techniques of all ballet. These are five separate shows all in one, and this is the easiest way to explain. The excerpts are all uniquely choregraphed to represent a variety of ballet dance styles from all over the world. It is a beautiful way to showcase talented ballet dancers. A lovely performance.
The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre has a Spring Mix each season to represent a variety of ballet. There are five separate ballet excerpts all in one performance time. This is Pittsburgh Ballet’s Emarald Season, and this is a beautiful way to celebrate with performances that are elegant and unique. The Pittsburgh Ballet performs at Benedum Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but this performance is held at August Wilson African American Cultural Center.
The costumes are beautifully made, and the performance is beautifully choreographed. The five performances are Emaralds, 1st Flash, Falling Forward, Ava Maria, and The Rite of Spring. The performance is a mixture of classic and modern ballet. There are two intermissions with a total performance time of 2 hours altogether. This is a wonderful idea to show elegant talent from the dancers and choreographers.
The performance of Emeralds is inspired by France, from the dress to the perfume, the comfort, and the French elegance. This is a classy and refined performance. The costumes are designed with the French inspired fabrics of luxury. The green is an amazing color of Emarald.
After Emaralds an intermission, then on to the performance of 1st Flash. 1st Flash is choreographed by Jorma Elo and has a wonderful lighting design. The audience responds greatly to 1st Flash. After a short pause, the audience experiences the world premiere of Falling Forward. An eclectic ballet performance that mesmerized the audience. The choreography is from Caili Quan. The fourth performance is Ava Maria and it has a calming effect on the theater room. It is a lovely ballet to see how calming ballet is, to witness a performance of emotion and calm is beautiful. This choreography is from Dwight Rhoden. This is another break for intermission.
The final performance is The Rite of Spring, for spring this is a great ballet to end this show and begin springtime. This is the world Premiere of The Rite of Spring. The story of a tree that awakens from its long winter sleep. This is what spring is, awakening from winter. This is a dance to welcome a season that can be a new start and a new beginning. Seasons change and some are more refreshing than others. The Rite of Spring provides this tree a change through dance. The Spring Mix 5 for 55 is an enjoyable and heart-warming look into the world of ballet.
Many travelers across the world comes to observe the Pittsburgh Ballet season performances. The artistic director, Adam W. Mckinney and the executive director, Nicholas Dragga have a beautiful season of ballet for 2024-2025.
