With dance and electronic music seemingly everywhere at the moment, it’s refreshing to experience a band like Kodaline that favours simple but catchy melodies and lyrics. The Irish band open their gig at Glasgow’s 02 Academy with the rousing Ready from their second album Coming Up For Air, before delivering songs from across their back catalogue, including their first album In a Perfect World.
Kodaline’s live act is much like their music: authentic, unpretentious, and more concerned with having a good time than being hung up on perfection. The crowd, which comprises many couples, sing along joyously to euphoric hits such as Coming Alive, Brand New Day and Love Like This. The band end their set with the pining All I Want, from the soundtrack to the smash hit tragic teen film The Fault in Our Stars. Nevertheless, the crowd goes home with a cosy festive glow.
