New Order’s ‘Restless’ – Single Review

After June’s announcement of an upcoming release, anticipation has been building for New Order’s Music Complete.

The forthcoming album (to be released 25th September) will be the band’s first without Peter Hook, however expectations are high after taking New Order’s longstanding history and newest single release into account. ‘Restless’, the first full track to be released from the album, is exactly what you would expect – the classic New Order sound carries through the entire anthem, with Sumner’s vocals blending smoothly – almost too well – with the synth we know and love. Unfortunately, the lyrics are somewhat lackluster. Unsurprising commentary on the nuances of modern life are now overdone, no longer surprising anybody. It’s almost a dead topic. But despite this downfall, the track simply wont leave your head. It’s infectious, easy to nod your head to and undeniably supports my high hopes for the album.

Music Complete is available for pre-order on CD, limited edition clear vinyl, or as digital download at neworder.com from Mute.
