Album: Jack Herer, I Came Here For the Rain

I’m a sucker for a good piano album.

Jack Herer’s new album I Came Here For the Rain gets it right.

Its gentle. It pitters, patters.

There’s Debbussian meandering, swirls and eddies.

Its turns and tenderness have me imagining the inner worlds and shifting emotional states of people as they work their way through the city, through their working day. There’s always something unexpected round the corner.

Having said that, Herer clearly has a story to tell. Life can throw up unexpected things, but often in the context of a routine.

It has the lightest of jazzy touches to it, but is otherwise sincere.
