You're racing around town, anxious that your purchase will secure the admiration of those around you. Is it the right colour, is it the right shape, is it the right make. What will people think of me if I wear this, if I smell like that, if I've got this magazine lying around at home?

You're racing around town, delighted that you're saving thousands of pounds in spending thousands of pounds. All the time your trying to build your own material empire, trying to secure yourself an immortal future, trying to secure your defences from attack from others.

We consume in fear.

The fear strangles us. Our anxiety induced purchases results in further anxiety. Anxiety caused by the threat of state legitimated violence carried out on the behalf of corporations demanding their pound of flesh (compounded with interest) that we owe in return for our purchases. So we sweat blood to pay for our imbalance.

Reduce your consumption. Spend within your means and spend for yourself not for others. Reduce your reliance on the opinions of other people for your own well being. Rely on yourself. What do you think of yourself? Or are you too scared to ask. Do you have a self to think of? What would life be like if you created one?
