| Don't work so much. No-one has to work all the time. When we work our arses off, it's a choice that we make. But why do we make that choice? For all the wrong reasons. People who work day in and day out are fools. They are trapped by the status of their own job and the potential status and money of being promoted, and thus have their heads stuck up their own arses. Pluck it out and have a look around. You'll soon be able to smell the shit covering your head and the range of other things that are worth thinking about. People use their jobs, like others use TV and others use heroin: to stop thinking about themselves and wider issues in the world. They use their job like a drug. They'll always justify everything that they do, or more usually everything that they don't do because of the requirements of their job. Jobs should be one aspect of your life. Not the whole thing. They should be one of the rooms of the house that is your life. But not a prison cell. Working non-stop is not only a manifestation of an imbalance in your life, but it also serves to alienate you from other human beings whilst at the same time enslaving you to the services of someone else (who is probably not working so hard as you). Added to this is the fact that people who spend all their times on their career become painfully boring bastards with nothing to talk about whatsoever. |
