Chickenhawk

Ending with their defining “We Hate This, Do You Like It?”, Chickenhawk were pissed off. Up against Broken Social Scene, this local band still drew a good crowd to the Mine venue. After two and a half weeks supporting Alexis On Fire they were fractious and tired but superlatively fit and drilled. The athletic and aggressive prog-flavoured attack was tight tonight. Thirty minutes of onslaught saw the lead guitar massaging his forearms between numbers to assuage the pain from the complex fretting. The vocalist had abandoned the stage, hacked off with the monitors, and was working in the audience. The drummer had set his jaw and concentrated on very powerful beats.

This is huge shouty nonsense – absolutely affecting and bypassing the normal channels of intepretation. It’s music to scare your parents with.
