I wrongly assumed from the album and the band’s MySpace pages that they’ve been around a bit and it was a real surprise to find that ‘All Our Kings Are Dead’ is the debut release from this High Wycombe quartet.

Almost instantly as the album kicks off with ‘Sons of Apathy’, references to the ‘Lost Prophets’, ‘Fightstar’ and ‘Taking back Sunday’ come to mind, I nicked the last two references from the press release as I have no idea what they sound like but hell it sounds good.

Young Guns sound is finely tuned guitar based rock music that will appeal to the new generation of head shakers delivering a fresh sound backing up some decent throughout lyrics.

I didn’t think much to the album initially but repeat listens has changed my attitude slightly with the aforementioned ‘Sons Of Apathy And Meter And Verse’ really standing out.

The Young Guns sound is stadium bound and they will do well on this years festival circuit increasing an already solid fan base which included Bon Jovi, who Young Guns supported on the opening night of their O2 residency.

This album inevitably doesn’t do it for me but I don’t think it’s meant to. It’s aimed squarely at the Radio 1 listening, Kerrang reading youf and with that audience in mind, the Young Guns should do very well indeed.
