Bless those Whole Sky Monitor boys and their quaint, outdated political views. Not that I don’t whole-heartedly agree with those views, but then again I’m not trying to build a career in pop music. Banging on about what a terrible person Maggie Thatcher was is all very admirable, and no doubt true. But it’s no way to appeal to the current generation of i-kids. Then again maybe that’s the point – if you’re a true socialist then you shouldn’t believe in material and personal gain, and wouldn’t give a toss for today’s corporate mass marketing of music. Musically these are three slices of spiky psychedelic punk pop delivered with vigour and venom, it’s a shame really that they’re around thirty years late with the delivery of their socio-political message.
