Gentlemen Of Distorted Sound
BONE IDOL EP
KNUCKLE RECORDINGS 9.8.10

Gentlemen Of Distorted Sound aren’t messing about, there is no glamour, filler or pomp on this EP and it’s so much better for it. It delivers great rock music that is as refreshing as it’s unoriginal but when it sounds this good, who the hell cares.

The musical comparisons come thick and fast, Gareth Nugent may be related to Ted but his vocals are straight out of the Ian Astbury finishing school of front men. This is clearly evident on the opening tracks ‘Electric’ and ‘Beautiful Face (For Evil)’ although the lyrics are eccentric enough to be Terrorvision’s.

When ‘The Gods’ starts, it’s almost Metal blasphemy with riffs nicked directly from Kashmir but strangely this doesn’t offend as you get the impression that the band are paying tribute rather than a ripping off.

As if conscious of the potential for references, the next track leans heavily on ZZ Tops La Grande and once again you get familiarity interlaced with a unique sound with the end product still delivering.

The EP ends all too soon with ‘Breathe’ and leaves the listeners wanting a whole lot more, I’ve referenced some of the greatest rock bands in history and Gentlemen Of Distorted Sound deserve these references but don’t think for a minute that they are a covers band.

They have a sound that appeals on so many levels, delivering something that is unique but is firmly grounded in rock familiarity.

The only thing better than this EP is the expectation of a full release, bring it on.
