It’s hard to know what to make of this album. I contemplated being flippant and just putting the word “Noise” in bold type, but that would seem a little unfair. Although Flying Lotus haven’t made things especially easy for me, given the promo CD is just one 45-minute track, comprising 17 songs that begin, end and are made up of dance beats, samples and, well, squiggly noises.

There are elements of useful music in this quagmire; some of the tracks would fit well on a Ministry Of Sound Chillout CD, while others would prove very useful at keeping gangs of youths away from your property.

Sadly, I’m struggling to see what all the fuss is about. For a Producer/artist who Marie Anne Hobbs recently compared to the Hendrix of his generation, he seems to have concentrated on the guitar burning bit and forgotten about the music.
