Steve Morse Band
OUT STANDING IN THEIR FIELD EARMUSIC 23.11.09 @www.vanguard-online.co.uk
I have a lot to be grateful for from Steve Morse, for the last 15 years he has been the guitarist in Deep Purple, providing them with a solid and very talented player that the band never really experienced during the Ritchie days. So when he released an album with the Steve Morse Band I was looking forward to seeing what he had achieved and I must admit that I was a little disappointed. Now don’t get me wrong, I think that this album is a fine recording except for one reason, I’m not a guitarist, hell even my missus kicks my arse on Guitar Hero. Let me explain, ‘Out Standing In Their Field’ is an instrumental album of immense talent, a real showcase of great guitar work that will have every other 6 stringer drooling at the mouth. I remember being at a Van Halen gig and seeing a large number of the crowd transfixed by Eddie’s fingers all evening, where all I wanted to do was shake my fist and loose my voice to Panama and Hot For Teacher (which I still can’t do on Guitar Hero). So if you are a Luddite like me and haven’t graduated beyond the tennis racket in the guitar stakes then I don’t think this album is for you. But on the other hand, if you can string a few cords together then this will definitely rock your boat. It’s a master class in the art of the guitarist, it’s just that some of us are beyond education. www.stevemorse.com |
