Bowling For Soup
SORRY FOR PARTYIN’
A&G RECORDS 12.10.09
@www.vanguard-online.co.uk

The ultimate party band feel the need to apologise – but they really shouldn’t. This, Bowling For Soup’s 10th offering, is as fresh, funny and catchy as the best of their previous material.

Tracks of note include “No Hablo Ingles” (the ultimate excuse for any wrongdoing – major or minor); “My Wena” (need an excuse for three minutes of nob gags? Well, call a love interest Wena and write a song encouraging people to admire her!); “Hooray For Beer” (which speaks for itself!) and ode to bro-mance “BFFF” (with the chorus line ‘I'm trying to say I love you in a heterosexual way’).

The standout track to me though is album opener “A Really Cool Dance Song”, with its self-referential tone and catchy chorus, it reminds me of The Bloodhound Gang’s “Bad Touch” and the slightly lesser-known “Self-suicide” by Goldie Lookin’ Chain.

Beware: this is an album with lines that will nest in your mind. For a week after I first listened to it, I found myself waking up humming random lines from various songs!

With “Sorry For Partyin’”, Bowling For Soup provide some much-needed jollity as we head into winter. Highly recommended… but annoyingly catchy!
