Heavy guitar riffs, raw vocals, pounding drums, catchy tunes, the odd ballad: Eyelash's album – Recession – has it all. It's not necessarily to everyone's taste – it's not musically inventive and is more influenced by 80s rock than the albums that their peers are creating – but that doesn't mean it's bad! Lead singer Fe Salomon's voice changes from powerful and edgy on tracks such as 'What Is It You Need?' and 'Bow To The People' and then does an about turn on tracks such as 'Loyal', starting off slow and haunting then building to a crescendo at the end.

Some tracks don't have particularly imaginative lyrics but they are catchy, plus, if I am listening to rock I'm not particularly interested in the lyrics - provided there is a good enough tune and the lyrics aren't too banal (there is a line that shouldn't be crossed), then I'm happy – if I want pretension then I will listen to something else. Recession is a dirty and edgy sounding album and never pretends to be anything more than it is – which is rather refreshing.

Whilst a sucker for any female led band (I am a walking clichι!) that doesn't mean that I am easily impressed – if anything it is the reverse – but this album made me want to hear more and now I am curious to see what their next outing will be like. For a debut, this album is pretty damn good!
