Kill The Captains
KILL THE CAPTAINS EP EMBRACEABLE RECORDS 12.5.08 @www.vanguard-online.co.uk Belated review here of this excellent EP. Songs are choppy and the band somehow just sound very together. Like they’ve worked a lot and understand their place in the overall picture. They have the strength to break into Beefheart-ian statacco rhythms, speed up, slow down, without it sounding like it takes the band enormous concentration (though I’m sure it does). There are four very different tracks, a pop-punky opener, a left-of-centre piece of art rock in 12/8 time, a ballad and an extended closer. The closer betrays the band’s origins as a psychedelic jam band, stretching into a collective wig-out, showing they understand the importance of volume, distortion and squeezing every last bit of juice out of a riff. www.myspace.com/killthecaptains |
