Opening up with a building subsonic rumble of thunder before working into drifting melodies and twittering synth birds, this is swiftly identifiable as an AD Music product. David Wright, a stalwart of the label, has a stack of previous issues on the label both on his own and as part of Code Indigo. Whilst most of his records are studio discs, this and the last Code Indigo set are live. Whereas the Code Indigo featured resonant sounds interspersed with between-song introductions in a small voice that somewhat wrecked the mood, this is an edited, re-shaped and partly re-recorded distillation of live work and quite a clever idea, at that. As a soloist, he’s not as likely as a band to surprise anyone with improvisation but this allows him to polish ideas and remove some of the duller moments that inevitably creep into long-form musical exploration.

Music rises to low-key crescendos then floats away again. Nothing totally grabs the attention yet the choice remains - let it all wash over you or sit and hypnotise yourself with a soft focus on the floating sounds. It’s all very gentle and wave-like, a bit like a snoozy day on a quiet beach. In fact the CD ends with digital waves washing out the speakers – clean your ears out…..

My 15 year-old self would be furious at me for listening to such New-Agey stuff but, with ears tempered by time, I found myself listening to this after Forward Russia and before Less Than Jake. What a wonderful world!
